Tuan Guru
I had met with Tun Dr Mahathir and Pak Lah and had lunch with both
prime ministers. Of course I was subjected to search before I could join
them for lunch and at lunch time I had to observe the lunch etiqueete,
which made the lunch a stiff occasion.
The experience was different when I met Datuk Nik Aziz. It was kenduri at my father in law's kampung house in Chekeli , Kelantan. We were not expecting anything extraordinary as my father in law was just a simple kampung folk and nothing was prepared to take on anything unexpected. Suddenly a Proton Perdana drew right in front of the house, and out came Tuan Guru to the house without any fussy escort and without expecting any welcome protocal. As it was impolite to leave the Tuan Guru by himself, I went forward to welcome him and invited him to lunch. Tuan guru was such a congenial person, unassuming and in touch with his folks..He talked and I listened eventhough I couldnt follow all he said to me, I blamed it on my ignorance. For a person like me, not having even an ordinary ustaz as a good friend, meeting this great ulama was a great moment of my life, even more than the two Malaysian prime ministers.
Tuan guru spent over one hour at my father in law's house . Eventhough he looked tired because he was in and out of the hospital and his day started very early , he never stop talking in his tuan guru way and salam with everyone that came to him. For me meeting tuan guru was a memorable moment of my life.
